Canada’s PGP Sponsorship Intake Reopens July 28, 2025

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed that the 2025 intake for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will commence in late July. This year, IRCC aims to accept up to 10,000 complete sponsorship applications.

Invitations to apply will be extended over approximately two weeks, starting July 28, 2025, to individuals who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but have not yet received an invitation. This approach prioritizes the existing pool of 2020 submissions, meaning a new interest to sponsor form will not be opened this yearThose who receive an invitation can submit their applications electronically through the Permanent Residence Portal.

For individuals not invited in this intake, the Super Visa remains a valuable option. This multiple-entry visa is valid for up to 10 years, allowing parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for five years at a time, with the possibility of extending their visit by up to two years without leaving the country.

Manitoba Temporarily Halts Employer Services Stream Until August 5

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) has announced a temporary pause on new Employer Services applications, effective July 4, 2025. This intake suspension is anticipated to last until August 5, 2025.

During this period, foreign nationals planning to be nominated by their employers must await the resumption date before submitting applications. Importantly, this pause does not impact applications that have already been submitted by employers.

The Employer Services stream facilitates the immigration of skilled international workers to meet Manitoba's labour needs, prioritizing overseas workers with approved job offers. To be eligible, candidates generally require specific age, work experience, a full-time job offer meeting provincial standards, language proficiency, and relevant education.

Ensure Your Program Qualifies for a Post‑Graduation Work Permit

International students aiming to work in Canada after graduation need to be aware of new Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility rules. Effective November 1, 2024, for certain programs, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced "field of study requirements." College, non-degree, and some university program students must ensure their program aligns with in-demand occupations to be PGWP eligible.

To confirm eligibility, identify your program's Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code via Statistics Canada's website and check if it's among the eligible fields like Agriculture, Health Care, STEM, or Trades. Your Designated Learning Institution (DLI) can also provide this information.

Additionally, general PGWP criteria include completing a program of at least eight months at a PGWP-eligible DLI, maintaining full-time student status, and applying within 180 days of program completion while your study permit is still valid. Language proficiency requirements also apply.
