End of Applications for Canada’s Agri-Food Pilot: Alternative Pathways for Permanent Residency
As of February 13, 2025, the Agri-Food Pilot in Canada has closed to new applications, having received enough to fill its quota. Foreign nationals who applied before this date will still have their applications processed. This pilot program, which was initially launched in 2020, was intended to offer a pathway to permanent residency (PR) for workers in agriculture and food processing sectors. It was extended in 2023, with an end date set for May 14, 2025. However, there are currently no plans to extend or replace it.
The program saw strong demand, with its 2025 cap of 1,010 applicants reached within the first two months of the year. Foreign nationals in agri-food occupations seeking PR can explore other pathways such as Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP), the Rural Community Immigration Pilot, Express Entry, and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). These alternatives offer various opportunities for individuals in demand sectors, including agriculture and food processing, to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
