IRCC Invites 1,499 Candidates in Latest Express Entry Draw
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 1,499 invitations to apply (ITAs) in the latest Express Entry draw, targeting candidates through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This draw required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 663 for candidates to be eligible.
The Provincial Nominee Program allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. PNP streams often align with the federal Express Entry system, enabling provinces to select candidates from the Express Entry pool who meet specific provincial criteria.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its first category-based draw on June 28, 2023. Announced in May last year, this draw type aims to attract skilled newcomers to address specific national labor gaps and demographic challenges. The new Express Entry draw targets foreign nationals with in-demand work experience and skills. Despite the focus on certain attributes, Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores still play a role in these category-based draws. This initiative helps Canada attract talent that meets the country's economic needs and supports its labor market demands.
In 2024, IRCC is prioritizing candidates in category-based draws who have work experience and language proficiencies in the following areas: -
- Healthcare occupations
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations
- Trades occupations
- Transport occupations
- Agriculture and Agri-Food occupations
- French-language proficiency

Canada’s Commitment to Refugee Support on World Refugee Day
On World Refugee Day, Canada reaffirms its dedication to refugees worldwide. With over 117 million forcibly displaced people globally, Canada's resettlement efforts remain robust. In 2023, the global refugee population reached 43.4 million, a 7% increase.
Canada will resettle 36,000 refugees from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific over the next three years, alongside ongoing efforts in the Americas. This year, over 27,000 privately sponsored refugees will be welcomed, with successful partnerships supporting LGBTQI+ refugees. Canada’s $96 million aid to UNHCR addresses health, education, and livelihoods.
Additionally, $75 million will bolster capacity-building in Latin America and the Caribbean, and $450,000 supports the Refugee Education Council to improve educational access. Canada honors host countries' generosity and acknowledges refugees' contributions. By working with global partners, Canada aims to provide protection and opportunities for the world's most vulnerable populations.
