Previous System: CRS Points for Arranged Employment

Under the earlier Express Entry system, candidates with a valid job offer from a Canadian employer received additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. 

Depending on the position, applicants could gain either 50 or 200 extra points, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. This policy benefited individuals with arranged employment, giving them a competitive edge in the selection process.

New System: Focus on Core Human Capital Factors

With the latest policy change, Canada has removed these bonus CRS points for job offers. This shift aims to create a more balanced and merit-based selection process, prioritizing factors such as education, work experience, and language proficiency. 

While job offers will still be considered in the application process, they will no longer provide an additional advantage in CRS scoring. As a result, candidates must now focus on strengthening other aspects of their profiles to remain competitive.

Canada Increases Application Cap for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program



The Canadian government has announced an increase in the number of applications it will accept under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in 2025. The new cap has been raised to 25,000 applications, up from the previously planned 15,000, which were set to be processed solely from the 2024 intake. This change provides more opportunities for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency.


Initially, in January 2025, the government had stated that no new applications would be accepted for the PGP. However, with this update, applications from both the 2024 and 2025 intakes will now be considered. Additionally, individuals who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 but have not yet been invited to apply will have another chance in this intake.


Due to high demand, the PGP continues to use a lottery system for sponsor selection. This expansion highlights Canada's commitment to family reunification, acknowledging the valuable role that parents and grandparents play in strengthening communities.
